When searching for a home for sale in Pemberton Heights, you may also want to consider homes for sale in Tarrytown, homes for sale in Westwood or homes for sale near Lake Austin.

High upon the bluffs overlooking Pease park, sits one of Austin’s most exclusive and stately neighborhoods, the homes of Pemberton Heights. Created by The Austin Development Company in the late 1920s, buyers were inspired to purchase homes in the area by offerings of "fancy $3500-$4000 cottages" as well as "$150,000 mansions." Their brochure touted, "over five miles of paved and shaded streets and sidewalks."

With the quiet feel of a small town, yet with the beauty, charm and elegance of a luxury community, Pemberton Heights is timeless and remains one of the most prestigious and coveted communities in all of Texas. Located off Mopac and Windsor in West Austin, Pemberton exhibits both raw class and utter delight for any and all who call it home. With short commutes to downtown, UT University area and numerous medical complexes, residents live in luxurious quiet without sacrificing proximity to one of the most desirable cities in the US. From its early inception, Pemberton Heights has attracted successful businessmen, politicians, and artists.

Then and Now: Remaining a very affluent and ritzy community, in 1998 Town and Country magazine selected the homes for sale in Pemberton Heights as some of the 25 Platinum Addresses in the U.S. While continuing its niche, of a quaint but stately neighborhood, homes are positioned upon wide home sites, yet complimented by meticulously cared for lawns and vast gardens. The Pemberton Castle was actually built before the neighborhood began. Though it now lives on 1415 Wooldridge Drive, it originally stood on the outskirts of Austin in the late 1800s, as a water cistern for the city’s firefighters. In 1925, the cistern was turned into a Gothic castle, and was the sales office for the Pemberton Heights subdivision. In 1937, the castle was bought by UT professor of architecture, Samuel Gideon. Gideon salvaged bricks and stained glass windows from the university’s original Main Building, and transformed the structure into a livable home. Though in 1935, the castle could not be sold for the eight thousand dollars it was offered at, rumor has it film director Robert Rodriguez purchased the home for 2 million dollars in 2006. It was also featured in his 2001 movie, Spy Kids.

A splendid settling ground for families and professionals of all ages, homes for sale in Pemberton Heights are refreshed by the ample trees and wealth of architecture that has withstood the generations. With a low retail presence, yet stocked with more than enough amenities nearby, Pemberton makes room for quiet privacy, distinctive marks, and unrivaled elegant style. Not to be outdone or silenced by time, Pemberton’s legacy to Austin lives on through palatial mansions in the Monterey and Colonial Revival style alongside cottage-style bungalows built to keep the community accessible to a diverse population. Though close enough to live the city bustle, Pemberton is conveniently and strategically insulated from UT by Pease park.

In addition, children living in Pemberton Heights are educated through the acclaimed Austin Independent School District. Those who are elementary aged attend Casis Elementary, while middle school students attend O. Henry Middle School and high school students attend Stephen F. Austin High School.

Ninety years after Pemberton Heights’ original inception, the homes for sale that are "shaded streets and sidewalks," offered up in its original sales brochure, are still as peaceful and inviting now as they were then, and well worth a stroll.
